Java Release Cycle
The current release schedule for Java includes a new version every 6 months. When a new version of Java is released, no more patches will be produced for the previous versions.
LTS Release
Every 3 years, a version of Java is designated for LTS, or Long-Term Support. An LTS release will continue to receive patches and support even after a new version of Java is released. The previous LTS release was Java 8 and the current LTS release is Java 11. It is projected that the next LTS release will be Java 17, which is due in September 2021.
